The Food
One of the things I love about this restaurant is that it uses fresh, local ingredients in all its dishes. This commitment to quality shines through in the food. Everything we ordered was delicious.
To begin with, the gnocchi with Parmesan cream and brown butter was a particular standout (we ended up ordering seconds). Also, the shrimp were cooked to perfection, and the accompanying saffron, ginger, and kaffir lime was the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. I could have eaten these all night!
The menu is divided into “cold” and “hot” dishes. Everything is interchangeable as both an appetizer and an entrée. I suggest ordering several dishes and sharing.
I ordered the Rohan duck with a bao bun, pear, fermented turnip, and hoisin, and my wife ordered the tuna with fried ginger, tamari, cilantro, and sesame. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and were delicious.
Additionally, the tuna was delicious. Additionally, I must mention the smoked kingfish – I’m a huge fish spread guy, and Meliora’s certainly did not disappoint!
Lastly, for dessert, my wife ordered the Japanese cheesecake. It was rich and decadent, and the dulce de leche added the perfect sweetness. I don’t usually indulge in dessert, but one of the owners insisted I try the sun gold tomato sorbet. I’m glad I did. We were both delighted with our dessert choices at Meliora.
Summary
This was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences my wife and I had in a while! In addition to the fantastic food, sitting at the chef’s table allowed us to have some entertaining (and educational) banter with the executive chef and the general manager, who are also the owners.
