After configuring my SmartThings setup to automatically lock my doors at bedtime, I wanted a way to close my garage door automatically as well. I went with the GoControl GD00Z Z-Wave Garage Door Opener Remote Controller.
Since my opener is a LiftMaster, I initially looked at their myQ product. However, its lack of compatibility with SmartThings and the monthly fee to enable connectivity to Google Assistant and IFTTT were turn-offs. The GoControl Garage Door Opener is compatible with most garage door openers and, since it utilizes Z-Wave, works with a wide range of hubs and security systems.

Installation was straightforward. I paired the controller with my SmartThings hub, mounted it to the ceiling near the opener and power source, connected the two wires to the opener, and then mounted the tilt sensor to the door itself. The tilt sensor connects to the controller and indicates whether the door is open or closed.
For safety, the controller emits a 5-second beeping sequence, accompanied by a flashing light, before opening or closing the door.
